English Football Leagues and Cup Competitions.





In England, there are many leagues and cup competitions. There are four "big" leagues in England which are The Premier League, The Championship, League One and League Two. While in cup competition, there are 2 important ones- The FA Cup and English League Cup(also known as The Carling Cup due to their sponsor). We from first-time bloggers are going to explain on what the leagues are, the teams and many other details so please don't get bored reading(seriously).
THE PREMIER LEAGUE



The Premier League is one of the most successful and richest league in the world of football today. It consists of 20 teams, each holding the pride and honour of being in England's elite group of football teams.
The teams are(as of 26th April 2009; according to league position):
  1. Chealsea FC
  2. Manchester United FC
  3. Arsenel FC
  4. Tottenham Hotspur
  5. Aston Villa
  6. Manchester City
  7. Liverpool FC
  8. Everton
  9. Birmingham City
  10. Sunderland
  11. Blackburn
  12. Fulham
  13. Stoke City
  14. Bolton Wanderers
  15. Wolverhampton(Wolves)
  16. Wigan Athletic
  17. West Ham United
  18. Hull City
  19. Burnley(relegated for Championship in 2010/11 season)
  20. Portsmouth(relegated for Championship in 2010/11 season)
The best teams in The Premier League are Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal. These four teams have long been known as the "big four" for their success in domestic, regional and international football. But in the 2009/10 season, the "big four" was renamed to the "big seven" with Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Manchester City on their rise to success in the Premier League. The Premier League season is played with a total of 380 matches per season.

Manchester United and Liverpool hold the record for having the most number of titles(18 each). Teams nowadays can qualify for European cup competitions by finishing the season in 1st to the 8th place of the Premier League table.
