The English Football League Championship





Better known as the Championship or The Coca Cola Championship due to their sponsor- Coca Cola(BRRRRR!!!). It is the second highest ranking league in English Football and sixth richest league in Europe. The winner of The Championship will gain a place in the Premier League along with the 2nd placed team and the winner of the Championship play-off(teams from 3rd to 6th places).

There are a total of 24 teams in The Championship.
Here are the
list of teams in the Championship for the 2009/10 season(by ranking as of 2nd May 2010):

  2. West Bromwich Albion(promoted to the Premier League)
  3. Nottingham Forest
  4. Cardiff City
  5. Leicester City
  6. Blackpool
  7. Swansea City
  8. Middlesbrough
  9. Sheffield United
  10. Bristol City
  11. Reading
  12. Doncaster
  13. Queens Park Rangers
  14. Ipswich Town
  15. Preston
  16. Coventry City
  17. Derby County
  18. Barnsley
  19. Watford
  20. Scunthorpe
  21. Crystal Palace
  22. Sheffield Wednesday
  23. Plymouth Argyle(relegated to League One)
  24. Peterborough(relegated to League One)

Remember The Football League? Well, The Championship is part of it along with League One and Two. Although The Championship is the sixth richest league in Europe, teams still cannot qualify for European Cups as teams must be at the country's top-flight league(e.g. The Premier League).
